We’re delighted to share that the newly unveiled No1 Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 2 has been recognised with a prestigious LIT Lighting Design Award, a testament to the exceptional collaboration, technical innovation, and creative vision behind this transformative project.
From the outset, the ambition was clear: to create a refined, calming sanctuary for travellers within one of the world’s busiest airport terminals. Achieving that atmosphere required more than great design, it demanded a lighting scheme that could shape mood, support wellbeing, and subtly guide the traveller experience from the moment they enter the space.
<h4>Lighting with precision&nbsp;</h4>
Appointed to craft the entire lighting concept, Akarui delivered a scheme built around comfort, sophistication, and human-centred design. With almost no natural daylight entering the space, the lighting needed to do more than illuminate, it had to become an active contributor to guests’ wellbeing.
Akarui’s adaptive design harmonises with daylight rhythms, supporting guests’ circadian health and ensuring the lounge feels intuitive from morning through evening:
Daytime: slightly elevated light levels create a bright yet gentle environment, perfect for alertness and orientation.
Evening: lighting transitions to a softer, more ambient glow, subtly inviting travellers to unwind before departure.
This dynamic approach helps foster relaxation, reduces stress, and enhances the overall guest experience, making the lounge feel like an oasis in the midst of airport activity.
<h4>Sustainability at the core  </h4>
To ensure longevity, flexibility, and ease of maintenance, Casambi controls were selected, enabling precise adjustment of light levels and scenes with minimal intervention.&nbsp;These results reflect a scheme that is both visually impactful and highly energy efficient, a powerful demonstration of how great design and sustainability can work hand in hand.

<h4>A collaborative effort to celebrate</h4>
Thanks to the expertise of lighting design studio Akarui, and the dedication of our Resident Architects and the exceptional No1 Property and Supply Chain teams, the result is a flawlessly executed lounge environment that truly stands out.
This award is a shared achievement, one that would not have been possible without the creativity of Akarui, the vision of our Resident Architects, and the commitment of our teams, whose immaculate precision ensured every detail came to life exactly as intended.
Together, these teams delivered a space that not only meets travellers’ needs but elevates their entire journey. It’s no surprise the project has been recognised as award-winning.
